Team Run Geordie Run

There promises to be a strong Team Run Geordie Run presence during this year's Great North Run in aid of The Children's Foundation. The Team Run Geordie Run vests, as kindly designed by Shenton Creative and paid for by Benfield Motor Group were sent out to all runners this week. Amongst that number are 2 young members, 7 year old Elliott Atkinson (pictured below) and 9 year old Jack Allison (pictured below on the Quayside). Elliott will be running in the Mini Great North Run and Jack in the Junior Great North Run.

I'm very grateful to all members of the team but I think there is something very profound when 2 local youngsters sign up to raise funds that will benefit other local youngsters. Watch this space to see how Elliott, Jack and all of the other members of the team get on. We also have a participant in the Melbourne Marathon. Go Team Run Geordie Run!

Team Run Geordie Run 2012

At the time of writing, almost 30 runners will be taking part in this year's Great North Run as part of Team Run Geordie Run raising funds for The Children's Foundation. This will be the 3rd year running where Team Run Geordie Run will have a presence at the Great North Run. It's the first year that the Mini and Junior events will have young runners in too.

Runners will be wearing the vests below. They were designed by Dave Shenton of Shenton Creative who has given yet more of his time and expertise for free. The production costs are very kindly being met by my sponsor Benfield Motor Group.

If you or your child already has a place in this year's Great North Run and you would like to join Team Run Geordie Run and raise funds for The Children's Foundation then please get in touch at sponsorship@rungeordierun.com for further info. There is no minimum amount to raise just a promise that you will raise as much as you can for The Children's Foundation.

Team Run Geordie Run - Mick Butler

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Ming the Merciless? No! It's Team Run Geordie Run's Mick Butler running the recent Edinburgh Half Marathon raising funds for The Children's Foundation. It's his 3rd event for Team Run Geordie Run over the last few years.

Mick was sponsored, very generously, to the tune of £999.99, by Edinburgh Audio Light Systems. They must have thought their money was safe as Mick's participation in the event was in doubt just weeks before he was due to take part. Not only that, but he had a few "comfort issues" during the run. As Mick explains "I picked up a training injury on my ankle a week before the race. I rested and treated it with ice and, with trepidation, set off for Edinburgh with a great bunch of running pals.

The first eight miles were fine, the remainder challenging. In an effort to reduce discomfort I altered my stride enough to make a hole in the side of my trainer, so the last 5.1 were completed with my toe sticking out the side of my shoe. Should have been wearing Brooks! Finished in 01.56:00".

Watch this space for news of other kind folk raising funds for The Children's Foundation as part of Team Run Geordie Run. For example, there are 20 runners in this year's junior, mini and main Great North Run. My sponsor, Benfield Motor Group, are providing each member with a running vest especially designed by Dave at Shenton Creative. As soon as the final design is agreed, I'll post an image on the blog.

If you have a place in this year's Great North Run and would like to join Team Run Geordie Run and raise funds for The Children's Foundation then please get in touch for further information at sponsorship@rungeordierun.com.

Finally, well done to Mick for completing the Edinburgh Half Marathon in difficult circumstances. Thank you also to Edinburgh Audio Light Systems for their generous sponsorship in aid of The Children's Foundation.

Well done Team Run Geordie Run

Well done to Team Run Geordie Run for their superb efforts in the Edinburgh half and full marathon. Pictured below from left to right are Louise Cooke (01:52:00 for half marathon), Mark Fleming (03:30:00 for full marathon), Jane Henderson (01:43:19 for half marathon), Mick Butler (01:46:00 for half marathon) and Alison Hudson (01:42:20 for half marathon).

Not only did the team all post personal bests, they managed to raise £1100 for St Benedict's Hospice and The Children's Foundation too. Well done to all of the team for such a superb collective performance and for raising such a huge amount.
