Day 26 of the run across the USA 2025

A better nights sleep was had last night in the Lewisburg United Methodist Church car park. I doubt that I’ll ever have a good nights sleep in the RV but it is what it is. I can definitely sleep well during the day when I have a “tactical snooze”. Overnight is completely different unfortunately.

I set off from Prices Creek Vetinary Service at 0600 in bitterly cold conditions using the walking poles. The strategy today was just to have a protein shake before setting off and to get a few miles done before breakfast.

It was just short of 4 miles until I was able to meet the RV and have a bowl of porridge. I wolfed it down (for once) and was soon on my way again.

I saw the RV again for a bottle of water just short of 7 miles. I dumped the poles and almost immediately picked up the pace. The incentive of reaching state number 6 (Indiana) helped too as did the donations coming in to St. Benedict’s Hospice via https://www.justgiving.com/page/rungeordierun2025

A combination of porridge and paracetamol meant that I was running pretty well. My back pain was tolerable and I made it to 10 miles a little before 1000. That’s the aim each day. I call it “10 by 10”. It’s only been achieved a few times on this tour so far but the entire support team know about it via WhatsApp when it happens. It’s seen as a bit of a victory.

Highway 40 was really quiet and the temperature was just about perfect at 20 Celsius.

I managed to reach 16 miles before lunch. I had some pasta and an hour long tactical snooze before pressing on into Indiana.

I stopped to take a photo of the Indiana state sign.

It has taken me 10 days to complete the journey across Ohio. It started off hilly but the long straight and mostly flat roads have been most welcome after the difficulty of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The final 8 mile stretch of the day was through Richmond, Indiana giving 24 miles for the day. It was a 1630 finish. This now means that there’s 64 miles left to Indianapolis where I hope to be by the end of Wednesday evening.

These early finishes while limiting the damage to mileage are helping my back pain. There was some improvement today and I’m hoping for more of the same tomorrow.

The charity fund is now heading towards the next barrier of £18,000. Continued thanks to those that have donated to St Benedict's Hospice. If you would like to donate, please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/page/rungeordierun2025

TUNE OF THE DAY: Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC which was the tune that allowed me to find some pace in the middle of the day.
